Here are 10 good reasons to add more fruits and vegetables to your diet, courtesy of The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR).

1. Prevent cancer. Of over 200 studies on the effects of fruits and vegetables, 78 percent show that fruits and vegetables can prevent cancer.

2. Keep trim. Vegetables have fewer calories than most other foods. Though fruits score higher on calorie count, they are packed with necessary nutrients.

3. Protect your heart. Fruits and vegetable contain antioxidants, soluble fiber and folates which have been proven helpful in maintaining good blood vessel and heart function.

4. Lower your blood pressure. A famous study on dietary approaches to reducing high blood pressure showed that eight to 10 daily servings of fruits and vegetables combined with low-fat dairy foods reduce moderate high blood pressure as much as medication.

5. Prevent a stroke. A diet high in fruits and vegetables reduces the likelihood of a stroke by 30 percent.
